Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo said what she meant and meant what she said. It was her that made the connection between the ‘Knock Out’ and what her fellow blacks were telling her. She made this connections because in her head it made total sense.
After reading the comments of Crownheights.info and Collive.com regarding this issue, there isn’t much more I can add.
I will just take the time to straight the record straight with some facts:
Fact: 30-35 years ago, the Crown Heights neighborhood was bursting with Jews. Crown Heights was ALL Jewish. The blacks came to live in a Jewish neighborhood. The blacks today live in houses and apartment buildings once occupied by Jewish residence.
Now we are a minority within a minority.
Fact: Crown Heights has lots and lots of apartment buildings, we have full blocks* of just buildings, which most of them are full of blacks. There are more blacks in Jewish (occupied) buildings then there are Jews in Black (occupied) buildings.
* Just a FEW examples of full blocks of just buildings: 1)Montgomery between Nostrand and Rogers.
2) Crown between Nostrand and Rogers. 3) Kingston between Empire and Lefferts. 4) Lefferts between Brooklyn and New York. 5) Empire between Utica and Schenectady. 6) President between Schenectady and Troy. 7) the whole of Eastern Parkway. Every block has at-least one building.
Fact: There are more public schools in the Crown Heights neighborhood then there are anywhere else in the city.
Fact: There are hundreds of laws that prevent landlords from “pushing out” tenants. Any landlord can testify that it is no easy task evicting a tenant (even one that does not pay rent). A landlord can spend up to three years in court, even when he’s in the right side of the law etc…
That said….the blacks, including Mrs. Laurie Cumbo, who claim that:
“The blacks of Crown Heights have “grievances,”… “Many of the buildings are owned by the Jewish community and [black tenants felt] there was a deliberate movement to push them out of their homes. What they would say to me is [the Jews are] doing this, not fixing that, making noise, they’re trying to push me out.’”
are talking out of pure hate and ignorance.
Mrs. Laurie Cumbo must resign as Councilwoman!!!
Mrs. Cumbo I’m sure has bigger aspirations, being a councilwoman is her first step up the political ladder. What better district to have on ones resume then the multicultural Crown Heights.
In her future campaigns (for congress or senate etc…) Mrs. Cumbo can have the “I worked with everybody” line in her adds and speeches. She will have photos of meetings with so called “Jewish leaders”etc…etc… She is using Crown Heights as a stepping stone to go up the political ladder.
This is why we must stop her now!!!!
Here are a few questions I have for Mrs. Cumbo (and these are questions of our so called “leaders” should have asked here:
1) In real time, how did you respond to these comments from the black community regarding the Jewish landlords etc…?
2) What outreach are you going to do now (for to the black community) to educate them of realty?
And then I would tell her to resign!
If only it was true: Now for a twist on this subject.
If only it was true that somehow our Jewish landlords were pushing out the blacks (and the yuppies) to make space for fellow Jews. Or the very least, building (new construction) for Jews. This would be a [wild] dream come true.
Unfortunately, the opposite is true. Most buildings in Crown Heights are owned by Jews, some that live in the neighborhood and claim to be Chabad Lubavitch (anash)* and many are from other neighborhoods, either way, most of their buildings are full of blacks and yuppies.
* Examples: The Sperlin family owns many buildings in Crown Heights and surrounding areas, which are mostly full of blacks and yuppies. Yossi Popack owns buildings with no Jewish tenants.
Thank G-d we have at-least one landlord that builds for the Jewish community and the corrupt cabal wanted to crucify him. May G-d almighty bless him with health (until 120), wealth and only happiness.
If anybody has any “grievances,” in Crown Height, it’s the Jews towards their own Jewish landlords.
The black community have no right to complain regarding this matter.
I had a good laugh when I read that Chanina Sperlin said the following:
Rabbi Chanina Sperlin, a longtime Crown Heights community leader who stood alongside Cumbo at a press conference condemning the knockout attacks last month, said Cumbo’s letter completely missed the mark.
“I saw her letter. I told her I totally disagree,” Sperlin said. “I think she has a lot to learn in this community….she’s coming in on such a left foot, and she didn’t even step into the City Council yet.”
Sperlin added that Cumbo’s claim that African Americans and Caribbean Americans were unfairly feeling the brunt of the real-estate crunch ignored the pressures equally faced by their Jewish neighbors.
“I don’t know where the wild dream is coming from that Jewish people want to kick African Americans out of their houses…but it’s definitely not coming from the Jewish community,” the rabbi said. I end this post with a blessing to all my Jewish neighbors (not including the Mossrim).
May G-d almighty bless you with health, bags full of money and happiness.
